MLK Day 2016

Martin Luther King speaking in front of a flagIn observance of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., City of Vidor offices, with the exception of the Police and Sanitation departments, will be closed Monday, January 18, 2016.

The Sanitation Department will run its normal Monday route. Customers are advised to have their cans out by 6:00 a.m.

Anyone desiring to make a payment to either the Sanitation Department or the Municipal Court may use the appropriate drop box located in the rear parking lot of City Hall Municipal Building.

Notice of Public Hearing
 
The City of Vidor will conduct a public hearing on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at Vidor City Hall, 1395 North Main Street, Vidor, Texas, regarding the establishment and designation of reinvestment zones for tax abatement purposes within the City of Vidor.   The reinvestment zones for tax abatement purposes will be for new residential construction and/or improvements on existing residential construction.
 
At the hearing, interested persons are entitled to speak and present evidence for or against the designation of reinvestment zones.  The City of Vidor welcomes your input regarding the reinvestment zones and the tax abatement program. CITY ELECTIONS

It’s election time again in the City of Vidor.  This year voters will cast their ballots for the positions of Mayor and Council members of Wards One, Four, and Six. Anyone interested in running for any of these positions can begin applying on January 28, 2015The last day to apply is February 27, 2015 by 5 pm. Election Day is May 9, 2015.

According to the Vidor City Charter, “Each member of the City Council (including the Mayor) shall be a resident of the City of Vidor, shall be a qualified voter of the State of Texas, shall have been such a resident of the City of Vidor for a period of not less than one (1) year immediately preceding his/her election and shall not be indebted to the City of Vidor.” Furthermore, a Council member must live in the ward he or she represents. 

Interested and eligible candidates may pick up an election packet at City Hall from City Secretary Vicki Watson.  For additional information or questions, one can contact Ms. Watson or City Manager Mike Kunst at (409) 769-5473. Her extension is 141, and his is 140. A boundary map of the wards may be found HEREor stop by City Hall to view the map.

Friends of the Vidor Public Library

The Friends of the Vidor Public Library is a volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization dedicated and committed to provide support to the Vidor Public Library. The Purpose of the organization is to create public interest in the Vidor Public Library; promote growth, development, and greatest possible use of the Library; and to assist with appropriate fund raising and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests for the Library.

One of the primary projects for the Friends is the Book and White Elephant Sale held each spring and fall. Funds raised from these sales are used for proje
cts to benefit the library such as building improvements or children's and adult programs. 

Membership is open to all individuals and organizations interested in the Library. Meetings of the Friends of the Vidor Public Library shall be held the second Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Mellie Nagai Community Room at the Vidor Public Library.
