Lyons Den in Vidor, Texas is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the biggest day in the comic book industry and comic art form, Saturday, May 7th. On Free Comic Book Day, (AKA The first Saturday in May) over 5.6 million comic books will be given away by participating stores worldwide, introducing as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books!

“Free Comic Book Day is a great event for the whole community. The variety of stories that are told in modern comics today ensure that readers of all ages — children, teens, and adults – can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations,” said Kelly Lyons, owner of the Lyons Den.
Celebrating its fifteenth year, Free Comic Book Day has proven to be an annual success, introducing new readers to the wonders of comics the first Saturday of May, every year. “Even if you have never picked up a comic book, we want to welcome everyone into the Lyons Den on May 7th, because there are so many amazing things to discover through comics, and we can’t wait to share them.”
This is our 4th year at the he Lyons Den celebrating Free Comic Book Day, offering the community a fun, family-oriented event where everyone can find a comic they will enjoy. We will be giving away about three thousand books. We at the Lyons Den want to spread the word that comics are perfect for today’s times," Lyons continued. "Recently comic books and graphic novels have been propelled to the front ranks of pop culture, many being adapted into movies. Comics are a fun and enduring form of entertainment for readers to dive into, as imagination comes to life with the turn of every page. The first Saturday of May has been and will continue being a big day in the comic book world.

Vidor Independent School District will host Arts Afternoon on Friday, April 29 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the VISD Administrative Annex, 200 S. Archie Street. The afternoon will feature some amazingly talented young people from Vidor High School and Vidor Junior High who will have artwork on display. Special to The Leader Vidor Rotary Club members put their motto of SERVICE ABOVE SELF to work on Thursday as they took the green bus full of books and school supplies to Deweyville for the elementary teachers who lost everything in the recent floods.
