Basically, HOT grants are to put “heads into beds” of local hotels, but must fit into one of nine statutorily authorized categories. Those categories are: (1) convention and visitor centers; (2) convention registration; (3) advertising the city; (4) promotion of the arts; (5) historical restoration and preservation; (6) sporting events in a county under one million in population; (7) enhancing or upgrading existing sports facilities or sports field (only in certain cities); (8) tourist transportation systems; and (9) signage directing the public to sights and attractions that are visited frequently by hotel guests in the city.
On Thursday, September 15th at 7:00 p.m., the Vidor City Council will have a special-called meeting to consider the HOT grant applications. At this meeting, one speaker per application will be allowed to present to the City Council the merits of their application, followed by Council’s questions, if needed. Following all the presentations and questions, the Council will determine the amount to award the applications.
A reminder for those who were awarded a HOT grant for fiscal year 2015-2016, if HOT grant follow-up forms have not completed and filed, those are also due by September 7th.

The site address remains the same, orangecountyedc.com, but includes new features such as Business Resources, Infrastructure and Small Business Financing pages. Videos and graphics add to the experience of the site, further delivering information in a visual way.
“Having a robust website is an important tool in business recruitment,” said Jessica Hill, Executive Director of the Orange County Economic Development Corporation.
“The more information we can make available to prospects, existing businesses and residents, the more opportunities we will have.” In addition, the OCEDC is hoping the new site will drive participation in its strategic planning survey. Business owners and residents will be able to participate in the economic development corporation’s planning process by completing the online surveys found on the site’s homepage. Survey responses will be analyzed in aggregate in order to update the three to five year strategic plan.
“The surveys give the community a voice and provide citizens and business owners an opportunity to offer input as we develop a strategy for growth and development in Orange County,” says Hill. “I encourage everyone in Orange County to participate.”
The online surveys will be available through the end of October. In addition to the surveys, the Orange County Economic Development Corporation will host several focus groups to target specific initiatives. The date and location of the focus groups will be posted when scheduled.
